About This Item
F. J. Huntington, 1838. unbound. William Gardner Evans. Map. Hand colored. Page measures 12" x 9.75".

Beautifully designed map of North America including Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Shows Texas after independence. Colonized in the eighteenth century by the Spanish, the Republic of Texas declared its independence from Mexico in 1836, but was not recognized by the United States until a year later in 1837. Another border dispute is noted in Canada with the careful coloring showing the '54 40 of fight' dispute with the British. Some wrinkling to the edges and toning but otherwise in good condition. Francis Junius Huntington (1802-1878) was a bookseller, publisher and printer.
