This work is a dramatic novel about a peasant trying to push himself higher in Parisian society. The main protagonist was inspired by a Jewish politician that the author campaigned against and lost to.Alphonse Daudet (1840-1897) was a French novelist and husband to writer Julia Daudet. He wrote many novels, some of which reflect his questionable Anti-Semitic tendencies. Collated, complete. Bound in full-morocco with gilt illustration to boards and spine. Externally, excellent. No noticeable edgewear and just a bit of discolouration to spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout, with the odd spot to the first and last few pages. Near Fine
