About This Item

New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, 1996. Originally serialized in The Miami Herald, published here for the first time in book form. Thirteen mystery writers who call Florida home each contribute a chapter, supposedly advancing the story. Much fun. Chapters from Dave Barry, Elmore Leonard, Edna Buchanan, James W. Hall, Les Standiford, Paul Levine, and others. Carl Hiaasen's name appears on the spine, and he has the "last word," chapter 13. Near fine in very fine dust jacket.. 1st Edition thus. Hard Cover.

Synopsis

Naked Came the Manatee is a mystery thriller parody novel published in 1996. It is composed of thirteen chapters, each written by a different Miami-area writer. It was originally published as a serial in the Miami Herald's Tropic magazine, one chapter per issue, and later published as a single novel. Its title is a reference to the literary hoax Naked Came the Stranger. The book was conceived of and edited by Tom Shroder, then editor of "Tropic.
