Profusely illustrated with 66 photographic illustrations, 51 figurative illustrations, and a folding map. 8vo, publisher’s original red cloth over boards, ruled in blind on the covers, lettered in gilt on the spine. xl, 328 pp. A very good copy, the cloth lightly mellowed, text clean and well preserved, some evidence of damp to a small section of the rear cover edge and a spot on the front cover edge, a bit of bleeding of the red onto the edges not affecting the text. FIRST EDITION WITH ALL ILLUSTRATIONS. ‘[An] important early ethnographic study of one of the major ethnic groups in Kenya which had been an obstacle to British settlement until its ‘pacification’.” The book is profusely illustrated with photographs and drawings.
