Yunkers, Adja (American, born Latvia, 1900-1983). NANIGOS - CUBA, 1927. Miller 1. Color Woodcut. Edition of 250 published in Sweden in 1942 in the magazine Creation (Miller notes an edition of 10 published in 1927; Nanigos was the only print Yunkers made before moviing to Sweden: his next print, Miller 2, was done in 1939). Unsigned, as issued. Printed on wove paper, Mounted to a gray support sheet, and with a tipped-on protective tissue with the following printed details "NANIGOS" Cuba, 1927 / Orig. trasnitt - ADJA YUNKERS." 13 9/16 X 10 3/16 inches, 345 x 258 mm. (the woodcut), 16 x 13 inches (the support sheet). In excellent condition.Yunkers, primarily known as an American artist, lived in Paris from 1925 to 1939, and in Stockholm from 1939 to 1947, when he emigrated to the United States. In Stockholm, he published and edited the arts magazines ARS magazine and Creation magazine. He taught at the New School for Social Research in New York, spending summers teaching at the University of New Mexico.
