Gilt “bound-arrows” details to spines and board corners. In very good conditions. Slight fading to spines. Some rubbing to edges and corners, Some minor rubbing to boards with small surface chip to rear of vol.2 and small nick to rear edge of vol.1. Bookplates to endpapers “Schol. Harrov.” Some moderate foxing to blank endpapers, some foxing to top edge of coloured plate and p1, v.1. Else pages and plates all very clean and tight throughout. Maphas some minor foxing to edges else clean and bright. Else very clean and tight, finely bound copies. 480, 456pp. With 66 full page b&w photo plates, plus many smaller illustrations and photos in text. Large fold out colour map at rear Vol 1. Classic account of the Nansen’s ‘Fram’ expedition 1893-96, a remarkable achievement in polar exploration, every detail of which was worked out by Nansen himself and went absolutely according plan.
