Full leather binding, front cover with central profile portrait in leather with sword encircled by leaves, initials "N" and "B" topped with crowns, entire centerpiece encircled by small opalesque stones, background of gilt bees, back cover with initial "N" crowned, gilt title on ribbed spine, gilt turn-ins. With beautiful Green Moiré silk (“watered” silk) endpapers. Possibly bound by Bayntun Riviere. Extremely rare and interesting binding. In very good condition. Very minimal wear to binding. Inside some light tanning, else clean & tight. (10),462 & 552,(1) p. decorated with 159 engravings One of the best works from an iconographic point of view, from youth to the Consulate.
