London: Longman, Green, Longman, and Roberts, 1860. Book. Very good- condition. Hardcover. First Edition. Octavo (8vo). Two volume set, complete with 11 maps and 20 color plates. Original cloth bindings are moderately sunned on the spine, with some fraying and rubbing; protected in archival mylar. The rear hinge of the first volume is cracked, remaining intact. Vol. I: xx, 494 pages, followed by 26 pages of advertisement. Vol. II: xvi, 472 pages including an index. Numerous woodcuts in text. The color plates are printed using the chromoxylograph process. Field 699; Wagner-Camp 360. During the expedition, Mr. Hind lived among the Crees and Chippeways, whom he observed and recorded in detail. One of the best, most comprehensive early works on the Indians of Canada. Previous owner's inscription neatly on the front endpaper. The single page maps are hand-colored, and the folding maps are in excellent condition and are also enhanced by hand-coloring. First edition..
