About This Item

12mo. Pp. xvii, [1], 20-302, [2]. Folding map, Map of the North-East Part of Siberia, which has been clumsily folded over the years (please see photo). Bound in contemporary three-quarter brown morocco with spine labels (the label with "Wrangell" a bit chipped), gilt lettering and tooling on spine. Slight wear to edges, front hinge starting but holding well. Book remains sturdy.

See ARCTIC BIB., 18995; HILL, Vol. I, p. 313 ("these explorations seemed to confirm the existence of an open and navigable sea deep in the Arctic"); HOWES, E161. SOLIDAY 10618, using "Vrangel," cites the first English edition, 1840, followed by a Harper edition of 1873. WICKERSHAM 6299 cites the first Harper edition (the first US edition) as 1855. This 1842 edition seems to have eluded bibliographers. A well-bound copy, quite fresh. Photo featuring business card provided for scale.
