(cgc) Hippisley served as a colonel in the First Venezuelan Hussars, as part of the British brigade sent to South America to assist in the war for independence in Venezuela. The account includes a description of the voyage to South America, with stops at St.Bartholomew, Grenada, St. Lucia, and other points in the Caribbean. The appendix prints a list of the officers of the First Venezuelan Hussars,as well as other documents, orders, etc., issued by Venezuelan leaders,including Bolivar. A fascinating account of South American independence movements, Bolivar, etc., notwithstanding Sabin's assertion that Lord Byron used the book to put himself to sleep.
