Gilt lettering and ruling on the spine. Edges untrimmed. Former owner's signature on front pastedown. Colour portrait of the author as a frontispiece. Twenty-five black-and-white engravings on wood. One double paged map. Textblock is neat and clean. Includes a list of books published by John Snow at rear of the volume. very good Williams was sent by the London Missionary Society to the South Sea Islands in 1816. He was said to be the most versatile missionary of his time, easily adapting to culture and language. An attractively bound copy of a great reference for Polynesia in the late 19th century. 1837
