Book Condition: Near Fine; slight shelfwear to head, tail, and tips. DJ: Very Good; NOT Price Clipped ($4.75); tape repaired closed tear to upper corner of front panel with wrinkles to the paper; suntoned spine with wrinkling of paper near the spine; light soiling to rear panel. Rust colored cloth boards and spine with paper paste-on title on front board. Clean internals. Interior hinges are sound and not split. 64 pp 12mo. Laid in are two newspaper clippings on the surrender from 1965 and 1973. This book contains a complete text of the author's privately printed 1886 edition. This limited edition reprint contains McKee's full text and his plan of the old fort, plus his 1861 map of New Mexico, and reports by Confederate and Union officers from Official Records. McKee's full service record is included as is the full report of the engagement by LTC Baylor, CSA, and complete reports from MAJ Issac Lynde, Fort Fillmore Commandant to COL Canby. The book reports about the abandonment of Fort Fillmore to the Confederates and the flight of the Union troops across the Organ Mountains with their surrender in the desert. Two maps are present; one as frontispiece and the second after the index. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
