Volume I: xii, [1] (list of plates), 423 pages; Volume II: v, [1] (list of plates), 362 pages (including Appendix at rear containing plates of New Genus including snakes and crabs); 19 engraved plates in total (including 2 folding maps of Island of Java and Great Barrier Reef) of varying subject matter (including Interviews with Natives at Wickham River, Natives at Cape York, Treacherous Bay at Erroob, Malays), engravings in text throughout both volumes, bookplates of 'Francis Beaufort' [of the wind scale], on upper pastedown and inscribed "Harriet M P Strickland" on title pages (both Volumes), inscribed "Flora Pollen" on title page (Volume I) and upper free endpaper (Volume II), upper blank inscribed with handwritten dedication by "Flora Pollen...1931" to her son (Volume I) explaining naval and friendship connections between all those named, the Beaufort wind force scale is named after this Francis Beaufort
