About This Item

S 36 risunkami v tekstirle i kartoiu Ussuriiskago kraia. [Our Far East (Three years in Ussurii Country). With 36 figures in the text and the map of the Ussuri region.] S.-Peterburg: Izd. A. F. Devriena, 1897 Half calf, 8vo. xi,468pp. 36 illustrations, folding map. A description by the Russian traveller and researcher Dmitry I. Schreider of the Ussuri River Region between Russia and China including Vladivostok and of the various ethnic inhabitants of the Russian Maritime Province. He describes Russia's migration and resettlement policies with regard to China and particularly the relationships between the Russians and the Chinese workforce who are mostly immigrants from the Chinese Empire. The Ussuri River flows north and forms part of the Sino-Russian border which is based on the Sino-Russian treaty of 1860, until it joins the Amur River as a tributary at Khabarovsk. Old cyrillic signature to head of half title, spine slightly rubbed, rubbing to fore-edge of upper board resulting in a small loss of cloth, a very nice copy of the first edition in a contemporary black half calf over green boards.
