About This Item

Washington, DC: National Geographic Society, 1944. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Near Fine. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. unattributed. Much better than Very Good, about Near Fine. See scans and description. Washington, DC: The National Geographic Society,1944. The January, 1944 issue, Volume LXXXV, Number One. Quarto, perfect-bound wraps, 128 numbered pages, plus 32 pages of those very engaging vintage ads at the beginning and end (24 at the beginning, 8 at the end), many of those in color and many, in this era, touting wartime manufacturers; 158 pp total. Plenty of both color and black and white photos herein. See summary of illustrations on cover scan. About Near Fine. Light dust at top page edges andr...that's about it. See all scans. Otherwise, no notable flaws whatsoever. A high grade example, and as such hard to replace. See all scans. Inside are pieces on Gulf of Mexico; Gulf Coast Towns in the Fight; Brazil's Potent Weapons; Bright Brazil; South Seas Ease; Dover, Britain's Front-line Town. Vintage Hormel Spam ad on the back cove, lookin' like a five-star dinner to me. And, as noted, plenty of other vintage ads inside - those being, somehow, always among my favorites offerings from NG. Scarcer issue than many others of the era, particularly in this condition. Ships in a new, sturdy, protective box, of course. LNG6
