Several volumes have been signed in the front matter by Fred Hubbard who donated the books to Cazenovia Public Library. Detailed description for each volume below.Volume I: Containing Descriptions of the Organic Remains of the Lower Division of the New-York System. C. Van Benthuysen 1847. 24pp prelims, 340pp text including index, errata and corrections. 87 engraved black & white plates with tissue descriptions; many on several pages plus a number of plates are foldouts. Pages are tanned, mottled and foxed. Binding firm but because of the weight of the book block the front board is lifting away from the guard. Volume II: Containing Descriptions of the Organic Remains of the Lower Middle Division of the New York System. C. Van Benthuysen 1852. 8pp prelims, 364pp text including index, 85 engraved black & white plates with tissue descriptions. Library label on spine, top of spine is missing a piece and the tail is chipped. Usual library labels and stamps. Volume III Part I Text: Containing Descriptions and Figures of the Organic Remains of the Lower Helderberg Group and the Oriskany Sandstone. C. Van Benthuysen 1859. 12pp prelims, 534pp including index and errata (no plates). Chipping to spine, binding firm, some foxing. Volume III Part II Plates: Containing Descriptions and Figures of the Organic Remains of the Lower Helderberg Group and the Oriskany Sandstone 1855 – 1859. Printed by C. Van Benthuysen 1861. Uncolored plates numbered 1 – 120, each with tissue descriptions. Foxing and mottling throughout. Back board partly detached and spine completely detached. Volume IV Part 1: Containing Descriptions and Figures of the Fossil Brachiopoda of the Upper Helderberg, Hamilton, Portage and Chemung Groups 1862-1866. Printed by C. Van Benthuysen and Sons 1867. 12pp prelims, 428pp including index, 63 uncolored plates with tissue descriptions. Some mottling throughout the plate section. Because of the weight the back board is lifting away from the guard. Volume VIII Part I Brachiopoda: An introduction to the study of the genera of Palaeozoic Brachiopoda. Charles Van Benthuysen & Sons 1892.16pp prelims, 367pp text including index + 1 blank. 44 plates with explanation sheets. Small tear on ffep, library stamp on pp V, library label & cards on back endpapers. Text clean and unmarked. Binding firm except for plate II that is detached. Library label on spine. Volume VIII Part II Brachiopoda: An introduction to the study of the genera of Palaeozoic Brachiopoda. Charles Van Benthuysen & Sons 1894. 16pp prelims, 394pp text including index. 64 plates with explanation sheets. Front board is lifting away from the linen guard. Library stamp on page III, library label & card on back endpapers. Text clean and unmarked, binding firm but the weight of the text block is causing some strain to the sewing, particularly on the plate section. Cover rubbed, bumped and scuffed.
