Longmans Green Reader & Dyer,, 1874. 8vo., First Edition, blank preliminary lightly spotted; original green pebble-grain cloth, sides with triple frame border in black, backstrip lettered in gilt and ruled in gilt and black, chocolate endpapers, top lightly spotted, short split in upper joint (but binding entirely sound) else a remarkably bright, fresh copy. With backstrip and half-title lettered 'Three Essays on Religion', and 2pp of publisher's advertisements at rear. First edition of Mill's final published work, issued posthumously in the year after his death with an introduction by his step-daughter.
