First edition of this well-illustrated work detailing the sixth Artic Expedition of Robert Peary building upon his Greenland expeditions, where he gained much of the experience used in his later treks to conquer the Pole, as well as an Inuit mistress, and child, both of whom he leaves behind in 1909. The SS Roosevelt was the first ship ever built in the Western Hemisphere for Arctic exploration, and was a schooner designed and built with an ice-strengthened flexible wooden hull, sheathed in steel and braced by a unique system of trusses.
