Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 1925. First Edition. Hardcover. Good +. First Edition. Full blue cloth with gilt titling to front cover and spine. This book, which contains many lyrics, is a seminal work towards an academic understanding of the blues and other African-American music; Odum's field studies began around 1910, prior to the recordings of most of the famous blues singers. Ex-Library; specifically, this book came from the Oregon, Illinois public library. It has call numbers on the spine, a card pocket on the front pastedown, embossures on the title page and page 31, and the flap folds from the (absent) dust-jacket pasted to the first free endpaper. Scattered pencil underlining to interior. Endpages and text block and lightly soiled. Boards are clean, with light wear to extremeties. Binding is tight and square.
