About This Item

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival. Very Good+. 2002. First Edition. Softcover. NOISBN . (oversize stapled wraps, 17" x 11") [a bit curled along spine, some bending/dog-earing at corners of front cover, overall quite clean except for a small stain on pp. 86-87 which has bled through a bit to several adjacent pages; staples are holding firmly]. Tribute publication issued by the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival, to commemorate the lifetime achievement award presented to the great Brazilian film director at the festival held July 19-28, 2002. Its 96 large-format pages (including covers) contain an enormous amount of information about dos Santos' films and career. The contents are divided into four primary sections: (1) Views from the Filmmaker, consisting mostly of his lengthy discourse on "Cinema Novo & Beyond"; (2) Interviews, seven in all ranging from 1972 to 2002; (3) Overviews of his work, three individual pieces; and (4) Reviews/Interpretations of the Filmmaker's Works, 26 essays mostly on individual films. Also includes a detailed filmography and and an extensive bibliography, the latter citing works in both English and Portuguese. (The textual matter is in English throughout.) .
