About This Item
New York: Grove Press, 1989. First printing. Hardcover. Very Good/fine. After the phenomenal (though posthumous) success of A Confederacy of Dunces, which won Toole a Pulitzer Prize in 1981, the manuscript of this earlier work was discovered in a drawer. After years of legal wrangling, it was finally published and confirms his masterly observation of petty-minded small town life. Book has a publisher's stamp to bottom of text block
Synopsis
John Kennedy Toole wrote The Neon Bible for a literary contest at the age of sixteen, but it was not published until 1989, thirty-five years after it was written and twenty years after Toole's suicide. The Neon Bible tells the story of David, who is a young boy growing up in a small Southern town in the 1940s.
