About This Item
Los Angeles: RAM Publications, 2001. Hardcover. Very good- to near fine condition. Oblong Quarto. (2) 51 (3) leaves. Original gray cloth with black lettering on cover and spine, in original photo-illustrated dustjacket with black lettering on spine, protected by modern mylar. Tan endpapers, ad laid in tissue guard to protect original signature of Lewis Baltz on title page. Designed by Thomas F. Barrow.
One of the publications by Lewis Baltz, the visual artist and photographer and member of the New Topographics movement of the 1970s, a key moment in American landscape photography in the late 1970s. Graduating from the San Francisco Art Institute in 1969 his work focuses on "human landscapes" like offices, factories and parking lots. This publication captures the anonymity as well as the relationships between inhabitation, settlement and anonymity. The volume is illustrated with fifty-one full page b/w photographs of industrial parks near Irvine, California, typical for industrial architecture, featuring simple geometric shapes of buildings and their surroundings, exposing the crisis of technology. Text in German and English. Dustjacket with light wear along edges, small chip at top of spine and lightly sunned, slightly more on spine.
