Very good. 8vo, pp. xxiv, 399 + [6] ads, with chromolithograph frontispiece, many illustrations in the text, double-page Map of the Kaiser Franz Josef Land surveyed by Payer. Original red cloth with decoration in gilt and black. Spine lightly sunned. Blind stamp and "withdrawn" ink stamp of the California Academy of Sciences Library on title page, but no other markings. Sound and clean. Arctic Bibliography 13202: "Narrative of the voyage from Norway to the waters northwest of Novaya Zemlya, the drift in the ice, Aug. 1872-Mar. 1874, the discovery and exploration by sledge of Franz Joseph Land, including chapters on auroras, the technique of sledge travel and the effect of cold on the men.
