Small octavo (7 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches; 191 x 114 mm.). [1]-520, [32, advertisements] pp. Some light foxing throughout.

Mid nineteenth century sheep, smooth spine ruled in gilt, black calf label lettered in gilt, yellow endpapers with printed advertisements. Both joints cracked but inner hinges sound. A very good example.

A large number of these recipes are from the South, many of which were dictated by colored cooks.

Originally published under the title, The Lady's Receipt Book, (1847), and enlarged under the title Miss Leslie's Ladies' New Receipt Book in 1850.

Eliza Leslie (1787-1858) was an American author, known for her writings on various subjects, including cooking. She authored several popular cookbooks during the 19th century.
