Auckland: The Spearhead Publishers. Good with no dust jacket. 1934. First Edition. Hardcover. Moderate rubbing and flecking to cloth boards and spine. A 1/4" chip to cloth in front joint. Some foxing.; A shining star in the milky way of New Zealand literature. This copy is signed by Mason on the front free endpaper "R. A. K. Mason". 30 leaves. Brown cloth boards with printed paper labels on spine and front board. Page dimensions: 227 x 145mm. An edition of 120 copies was intended by the publishers. Mason had first sought for overseas publishers for this work, including Leonard and Virginia Woolf's Hogarth Press in the United Kingdom. Spearhead Publishers, also to become known as the Unicorn Press, was set up by Mason and Bob Lowry in 1934. After Mason left in 1936, Lowry carried on the imprint with other partners. "He's a crack-brained socialist, with some literary ability [. . .]" - Bob Lowry, discussing Mason in a letter to Denis Glover. This title is number 46 on The Listener's list of the best 50 New Zealand books. Scarce. 1941. SCHWARTZ, Delmore. SHENANDOAH. Norfolk, CT: New Directions, (1941). "Poet of the Month" series. First edition. This verse drama deals with a family's quarrel over the naming of a son, Shenandoah Fish, which is obviously analogous Schwartz's name, about which he was quite sensitive. Inscribed to the poet Theodore Morrison. "Ted, from Delmore, October 1941." Illustrated by Frederico Castellon. Printed by George Hornby at The Domesday Press, New York City. 28 pp. 8vo., plain paper wrappers, wire saddle stitch. In a dark blue dust jacket, illustrated on the upper wrapper in grey-blue. Internally clean and fine; however, the dust jacket is sunned at perimeters and on the lower panel, with some light edgewear. Inscribed copies by Schwartz are uncommon, and this is a very good copy, inscribed by him.

Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process. Trumansburg, NY: Out of Step Press. Fine with no dust jacket. 2016. Numbered Edition; First Printing. Pamphlet. The author's non-linear poem about the billeting of soldiers in civilian homes in wartime. Copy 89 of a limited edition of 250. Folded into the form of a letter, the work was letterpress printed in wraps of handmade "combat paper" made from military uniforms. The author says: "Some time ago-maybe a year, maybe two? I had a conversation with some of my Combat Paper brothers (well, the kids call them their combat paper uncles, so it follows…) that led to me writing the poem "Quartering." Which was informed by them, of course, and by all the rooms I'm in, and by imagining what is really required of all the caregivers I love. It's a thought experiment: if we tore down the barracks at military hospitals and offered incentives for Americans in the surrounding neighborhoods to quarter injured service members, what would the honest instructions… Read More
