About This Item
New York: National Council of the Churches of Christ in the U.S.A.. Softcover. Very good. Title page states "Revised 1951," copyright page dated 1952. 82 pp, in original wrappers. Near fine, with a small chip at the based of the spine. Gustavus Elmer Emanuel Lindquist (1886-1967) was a prominent figure in twentieth-century Protestant missions among Native Americans. He spent thirty-four years serving with the Home Missions Council of the Federal Council of Churches. Although based in Lawrence, Kansas, he spent much of his working life travelling "throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico, visiting Indian reservations and schools, interacting with missionaries and Indian communities in the area, and reporting back about the work being carried out" (Columbia University finding aid). Lindquist was the editor of the Home Missions Council's first handbook for missionary work with Native American peoples, published in 1932. This was the first revision, intended to "meet changing situations, to indicate sources of information and to suggest methods of work." Scarce.
