About This Item
New York: Watson-Guptill Publications [0-8230-7390-4] 1976, reprint. (4to) 264pp. Very good in good to very good dust jacket. Plans, photographs, illustrations. There is a previous owner's name on the front free endpaper and the dust jacket is edgeworn and faded on the spine. "There are many unused or under-utilized buildings existing today whose construction and detail - which can never be recreted - should be preserved. But today's increasingly sophisticated demands for standards and services, as well as tighter codes for fire and safety, make the conversion of an old building to a new one a formidable task. Knowing this, there has been bias among developers, contractors, and architects against renovation / restoration because it does not produce as much profit for them as new construction. But as land, materials and labour prices soar to inflated levels, renovation is becoming a much more attractive alternative". (Architecture, Architecture, Building Construction, Conservation, Design, Development, Renovations, Repair).
