This was written the year before the Capitol was finally completed: "Thanks to your careful packing, your picture of the West Portico of our Capitol, reached me in good condition, and needless to say I am very much pleased to find that you had not forgotten my request. I was particularly anxious to have a picture of this portico while the stage your picture presents and it may interest you to know that the portico is now finished and the large flat stones upon which you see the men working, now form the ceiling. Thanking you very much for sending the picture and also for the kindly expressions in your letter... ". The piece is in fine condition overall with the usual folds
