About This Item

New York: Jacobsen-Hodgkinson-Corporation, (1927). [2], 5-128, [4] pages. Approx. 8 x 5¼ inches. Illustrated color wrappers. Half tone illustrations; advertisements. Brief rubbing at extremities; Very Good.

Rare Jazz Age photoplay based on this 1927 Paramount Studios film, written by Barbara Chambers and Becky Gardiner. Gardiner scripted the 1926 film The Great Gatsby, adapted from the quintessential Jazz Age novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

New York is now considered a lost film. It tells the love story of a "Jazz King" and a banker's daughter in New York City. Ricardo Cortez, Lois Wilson, and Estelle Taylor headlined.¹

Cortez, who starred in a 1931 film version of The Maltese Falcon, came from a Jewish background, but was recast by Hollywood as a "Latin Lover" in the mode of Rudolph Valentino. The film also starred a young William Powell who began his career at Paramount.

This photoplay presents nine half tone illustrations from the movie.

Note 1. Delaware-native Estelle Taylor-"The Delaware Delilah"-had herself been married to a banker before marrying heavyweight champion boxer Jack Dempsey. OCLC 41230138, five copies.
