The Currawong Press, Sydney, 1943. First Edition. Hardcover. Good Condition/Fair. Illustrator: Illustrated. Foreword by author. Colour illustrated frontispiece, showing the 'Sophia Jane'; with 12 black-and-white reproductions of other packets throughout the book. Blue coloured textured boards with dark blue coloured embossed titles to the front panel and back strip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper, same illustration as for frontispiece, with navy blue coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Quoting from the front fold over panel blurb " ... (the author) with has succeeded in presenting and mass of facts about the early days of navigation on the New South Wales coast, in a way that will capture the interest, not only of ship loving people, but also of the thousands of Australians who at long last are beginning to curious about the past and present history of the land they live in." Softening of the back strip edges with a little bumping and rubbing of the lower book corners. All cocking of the spine with light tanning of the text block edges and pages. A few foxing spots to the text block edges with offset tanning and faint foxing of the end pages. Remnants of a sticker can be seen to the top right hand corner of the free front end page and an erasure mark is also present to the same area. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners, along the front fold over edge and to the back strip edges. Rubbing of the dustwrapper with sunning of the back strip and rear panel. Staining to the lower third of the back strip with staining to the corners and fold over edge where a previous owner has supported said places. The dustwrapper has been protected with a library plastic and there is a brown sticky residue to the top left hand corner of the rear panel. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [7], 8 - 242, [2] pages,.
