About This Item

N.Y.: Dell Publishing Company, Inc., 1950. 1st pbk printing, February 1950. Dell Mapback #374, Vintage Paperback. Movie Tie-In cover with photo of Richard Widmark & Gene Tierny from the original movie. Re-made in 1992 with Robert De Niro and Jessica Lang. Reading crease, spine edges rubbed, front cover has a few longish creases and half a dozen smaller creases. Back cover map is a sectionb of London circa 1936. Kersh's tale of Harry Fabian, a pimp and small-time operator with big time dreams, and his cast of supporting players is vintage noir. Fabian is a cockney wide boy trying to make it big in the Soho underworld of the 1930s. He is a Flash Harry in an expensive suit, a chancer operating in a cosmopolitan corner of the city where villains, spivs, prostitutes and strong-arm men thrive. But his ambition and reckless nature are pushing him towards more and more extreme acts - and a day of reckoning. Night And The City is a classic work of social-realist fiction that captures the vibrant yet seedy underbelly of London between the world wars. All Vintage Paperbacks come sealed in 2.5 mil plastic bag and taped closed with removable tape which will not tear the covers if it sticks to them when the book is removed. 1st Prtg. Pictorial Wrappers. Good. Vintage Paperback.
