About This Item

Octavo 15x10.5 cm., illustrated wrappers, 64pp., 1500 copies. Beno Gordeziani (1894-1975) was an artist, editor, and author of many works on Georgian art history. He was one of the founders of the Futurist H2SO4 group, along with Imrakli Gamrekeli and Nikoloz Ch'ach'ava . This is an early monograph on Niko Pirosmani (1862-1918), an impoverished primitivist painter who became an inspiration for Georgian modernism and avant-garde through the efforts of Il'ia and Kirill Zdanevich, and later embraced by all Georgians as a national icon. He was championed in the West through the promotional efforts of Iliazd through his books published in Paris. The book includes b/w illustrations of Pirosmanashvili's works and was released in a small edition. Rare: OCLC, KVK finds no holdings worldwide. Very good with personal owner stamp on title page.
