About This Item
London and Culver City: Villiers Publications Ltd, 1962. Complete run of this little magazine, published in London and Culver City, CA between 1959-1962. Factor and Linick, studying at UCLA and USC, were both drawn to poetry readings throughout L.A.; at the time, Coastlines was the only significant little magazine in the city, so the pair set out to publish their own, chiefly featuring west coast poets. The publication is best-known for being an early publisher of Charles Bukowski's work, prior to the release of his first book (he contributed six poems between two issues). Other contributors include William S. Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, Kenneth Rexroth, Judson Crews, Carl Larsen, Jack Micheline, Gil Orlovitz, John Reed, Clarence Major, Emilie Glen, Ben Tibbs, Robert Creeley, Gregory Corso, Louis Zukofsky, Gary Snyder, Denise Levertov, LeRoi Jones, and Lew Welch, among others. The final issue was dedicated to entirely to the work of New York School poets. Clay & Phillips, p.287; Dorbin C31-34, 50-51; Maynard & Miles C10. 11 issues bound in nine octavo volumes (ca.23cm); illustrated stapled wrappers (Issue 10/11 perfect-bound); 32-96pp per issue; illus. Front wrapper of Issue 1 shows two small areas with sticker-pull, with foxing to text edges; wrappers on four issues have scattered foxing; varying degrees of oxidation to staples; overall, Very Good+ to Near Fine.
