About This Item
Philadelphia: Sower, Potts & Co.. Good+. 1866. First Edition. Hardcover. Albert Newton Raub (1840-1904) was a teacher, principle and President of Delaware College; he wrote a number of textbooks including this one. This is an interesting speller, illustrated with small text cuts, which uses phonic techniques for spelling. "Primary spellingand primary pronounciation to be well taught, must practically be taught together." The covers are the original green printed paper covered boards are worn, but still legible; the green cloth spine has a hole and is torn in a couple of places, but is holding. The pages bright, and one page has child scrawl. There is no edition stated in this book, but it appear that there are no early printings for this title. This is an uncommon title, especially in this condition--most copies that have survived, of course, are in poor condition.; B&W Illustrations; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 120 pages .
