Norman Hartnell: 1901 - 1979, was the doyen of British couture for over half a century. "In this volume a group of specialists discuss his role and how we worked, always stressing quality, always studying the character of his customers and the occasion for which the dress was intended. Although usually thought of as the Royal dress designer and the couturier who created his own special world of sequins glittering on rich fabrics, Hartnell also used his talents for theatre designs, simple practical clothes and government-inspired utility scheme during the Second World War." -- from the rear panel blurb; part of his design for uniforms to be worn for the Metropolitan Police Force is still in use today. The book was produced in conjunction with a exhibition of his dresses held at museums in Brighton, and Bath. A little creasing of the book corners with rubbing of the edges and panels. Remnants of a sticker can be seen to the lower left-hand corner of the rear panel. Age toning of the textblock edges and, very light age toning of the pages. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall.
