Octavo, [two volumes], viii, 467pp; viii, 494pp. Full leather, spines professionally repaired, title in gilt over red leather spine labels, covers decoratively stamped in blind with double gilt-ruled border and gilt embellishments on spines. Ornate gilt turn-ins and border edges, marbled endpapers. Sprinkled edges. No additional printings listed on copyright page. Previous ownership inscription on verso of front free endpaper of each volume. Solid text blocks, light wear to corners, some rubbing to front and rear covers, a near fine example. Fold-out map of the United States by Vincent Brooks of London, a few short closed tears along folds, one longer tear repaired on verso, faint foxing, a nice example.
