Chapel Hill, NC: University of North Carolina Press, 1939. Book. VG+. Cloth. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Maroon cloth with gilt tiles to front and spine. 601 pp. Fold out map in pocket on rear EP board. Front EPs are a map of North Carolina. More than a dozen maps within the text . More than 100 photographs. This copy is VG+. Only a hint of wear to the exterior, althoght spine is moderately sunned. Front gilt still bright. Inside is unmarked ( save for the signature of Joseph Hyde Pratt ( 1870-1942) . Per NCpedia, Pratt was a pre-eminent geologist, conservationist, educator and prolific author who was also the Colonel of the 1st battallion of the 105th Engineers in WWI and was awarded the DSM. Otherwise interior is clear, crisp, and with minimal toning. This book, having been " Sponsored by North Carolina Department of Conservation and Development" , has therefore an exceptional provenace as Pratt's personal copy.
