About This Item

San Francisco: The Colt Press, 1973. First edition, signed issue, in second (later) issue "Grabhorn-Hoyem" binding, limited to 21 copies (bound thus), signed by Edmund Wilson [only circa 10 copies of the signed issue were bound by Colt Press, and issued at the time of original publication]. pp. [viii], 113. 8vo. Black leather spine stamped in gilt, decorative blue paper-covered boards. The book and the broadside are in fine condition. First edition, signed issue, in second (later) issue "Grabhorn-Hoyem" binding, limited to 21 copies (bound thus), signed by Edmund Wilson [only circa 10 copies of the signed issue were bound by Colt Press, and issued at the time of original publication]. pp. [viii], 113. 8vo. ONE OF 21 COPIES SIGNED BY EDMUND WILSON. Laid into the book is the publisher's small broadside (dated "May 15th, 1973"), discussing the publishing history, signed by Jane and Robert Grabhorn (the publishers) [single sheet, measuring 6 by 9 inches, printed on recto only].
The publisher's broadside states (in part): "... Recently when Grabhorn-Hoyem acquired the equipment and accumulated debris of the old Grabhorn and Colt Presses, twenty-one unbound, signed copies of this title were discovered... So it is reasonably certain that up to now this edition has been truly hors commerce.

Our stock covers a wide range of collecting interests, with particular emphasis in the following fields: British and American Literature, Sporting Books, Private Press and Illustrated Books, 19th-Century Color Plate Books, Americana, Travel, Sets and Fine Bindings, History, and Authors' Manuscripts and Letters. Our catalogued inventory exceeds 50,000 titles, much of which can be searched on the internet. In addition, our New Jersey warehouse contains over 400,000 books in all subject areas. We might have the books you're looking for.
