The selection, begun by former Director of the NY Metropolitcan Museum of Art Francis Henry Taylor and his wife and completed by her after his death, groups excerpts from the notebooks under headings such as "The Painter", "The Sculptor", "The Inventor", "The Musician", etc., ending with biography-related excerpts in a chapter called "The Whole Man - The Man Himself - The Enigma". 16 b&w reproductions. Trade paperback, crease to spine with split opposite at which p. 97-98 partially detached, light soil/foxing to wraps, foxing to top edge, red remainder mark to bottom edge, edges/end papers/page margins age-tanned. Page-reference notes in pencil on rfep.
