For Ridgay and Sons. 1818. 8vo, The First Edition, iv,144,[4]p., publisher's ads., original light blue paper over boards rebacked in quarter light brown paper, no label, the boards are dust worn, label removed on the upper cover, some foxing, a very good (tr.ds). Without the map as usual, it was issued separately. It was included starting with the third edition. Howes "apparently map not present in all copies" - Howes B468; Sabin 5569. Clark v2, #4, Morris Birkbeck (1764- 1825 was an English social reformer and anti-slavery campaigner who emigrated to America in 1817. He was a co-founder of the prairies settlement town of Albion, Illinois.
