About This Item

New York: Alfred A Knopf, 1928 Book. Very Good. Blue Cloth Boards. First Thus. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Eight uniform volumes: Popanilla and Other Tales, Contarini Fleming, Alroy, Coningsby, Sybil, Tancred, Lothair and Endymion. Undated but thought to be review copies, one has a publisher's note tipped in asking for reviews not to be released until the publication date in 1928. These books came from an "attic sale" of items from Renishaw Hall, home of the Sitwell family, and two of the dustjackets have "Sitwell" written on the front panel. Introductions by Philip Guedalla. Top edges gilt, other edges untrimmed, decorated endpapers. Some bumping to spines and corners and slight foxing to edges, otherwise very good copies. All dustjackets are edgeworn and chipped, somewhat soiled and with darkened spines, otherwise good. Each has a different colour drawing by the same artist to the front panel. VERY HEAVY SET, additional postage will be requested..
