Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 1957. Civil War Centennial Series. Cloth. Fine/Very Good. Tables. Small 8vo, reddish-tan cloth with black lettering on spine, archival mylar-protected lettered dust jacket (unclipped), xi, [xii-xiv] + 150 pages. Thomas Leonard Livermore (1844-1918), from Galena, Illinois (as was U.S. Grant) joined the 5th New Hampshire and rose rapidly through the ranks to Captain. He was wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill in July 1862 and was present at Gettysburg a year later. Livermore later transferred to command the 18th New Hampshire with the rank of Colonel. After the war, he returned to New Hampshire and studied law, then becoming a member of the New Hampshire bar. Livermore's lengthy war diary, "Days and Events," now at the University of New Hampshire, was published two hyears after his death. It covers the period 180-67, and is an important record of the Civil War Numbers & Losses remains a VERY USEFUL survey of casualties during our bloody Civil War. Solid cloth and textblock; mild toning to paper. A few small chips to the dust jacket (unclipped). No remainder marks.
