About This Item

Wellington, New Zealand: Numbers, 1959. Rare. Numbers Magazine was produced twice a year by 'the Wellington Group' including James K Baxter, Peter Bland, Louis Johnson and others in reaction against fashionable nationalistic aspirations, Bland and Johnson insisted that poetry engage with the commonplace suburban reality of most New Zealand lives. Contains the first working publication of Baxters' second dramatic play in here named 'The Tough Side of Things' (published later as 'The Open Cage') also first published within is his Asian poem Eioko written after he returned from Japan and India. Other contributors include Peter Bland, Marilyn Duckworth, Louis Johnson, Sylvia Ashton-Warner etc.. CONDITION Green stapled paper wraps, 64 pages, advertising to covers for various book shops and publishers. Very crisp and clean only faults are covers split down spine causing separation and a short tear top front.. First Edition. Magazine. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
