Translated by English historian and author William Roscoe, who also wrote the notes section and the sonnet entitled "Inscription" at the end. Association copy, having been presented to poet Lorenzo Sosso on his forty-fourth birthday by Mrs. John M. Jackson. 12mo, 89 pp. + 34 pp. of Notes and Inscription sections. Gilt-stamped calf, raised bands, black leather spine label, marbled endpapers. Bookplate of C.W. Frederickson on the front pastedown, gift inscription to Sosso on the flyleaf. Spine largely perished, front cover detached, fair only. See scans. Tansillo's deft opus encouraging women to suckle their own young, written at a time when such a topic indeed needed to be handled deftly. Lorenzo Sosso was the author of San Francisco and Other Verses; The Last Roundup: A Book of Verse; Wisdom for the Wise, A Book of Proverbs; In the Realms of Gold; Poems; Poems of Humanity and Abelard to Heloise; and In The Realms of Gold, a book of verse 1891-1901. l50n
