Cambridge, Massachusetts: Harvard University Press, 1979. FIRST EDITION, first printing. Bound in green cloth with gilt stamp on front cover and gilt letters on spine. Many black & white drawings and photographs throughout. Spine bumped on top and bottom. Light scuffing on the Dust Jacket and is price-clipped. Signed by the author on the page before the title page. Oakes Ames was the botanist responsible for bringing Orchids into the public eye. Before his work in Florida, the Philppines, Central and South America few knew or understood orchids. On these expeditions, his wife, Blanche, drew scientifically accurate illustrations of orchids they saw. The work, "Orchidicae: Illustrations and Studies of the Family Orchidicae" was the product of his study.. Signed by Author. First Edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
