Stab-stitched pamphlet in later plain wrappers, most of front wrapper neatly removed. Moderate toning to interior, light foxing in a few leaves, fold lines to lower outside corner of final three leaves, light soiling to title page, its lower-outside corner lacking. $650. * Only editions. Observations is an example of the pioneering work of Paul, a notable prison reformer and philanthropist who was also the high sheriff of Gloucester. Dealing primarily with patients with mental issues, it is clearly inspired by the works of Blackstone, John Howard and Cesare Beccaria. The Following Advertisement announces an upcoming meeting of the hospital's General Court of the Governors. Probably intended to be discussed at the meeting, its second section is a list of contributors to the hospital and the amounts given. Both titles are rare.
