An exceedingly uncommon collection of short fiction by the German-Jewish novelist and playwright (1884-1958), who spent most of his later years as a resident of Pacific Palisades, California (after having been granted political asylum in the U.S. in 1941, following a harrowing escape from wartime Europe). Per a prefatory note: "Most of these stories have appeared in British and American magazines, and some of them [eight, to be exact] in 'Little Tales' (Hutchinson, 1935)."
