About This Item

Sherman Oaks, California: Privately Printed , 1992. Limited Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. As New/Book built into clam-shell box. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Joeseph J. D'Ambrosio. This edition of Olympe and Henriatte by Villiers de L'Isle-Adam, with an introduction by world class book collector and critic, pat magarick, is designed and produced by D'Ambrosio, using hand set 14pt. Greeting Monotone, and Fournier ( Introdiction/Colophon) types; printed on Madeleine Pestiaux's handmade " Misty Rose" paper, using a Vandercook # 4 proof press, with Van Son's inks: Brick Dust and Slate Gray. All multicolored areas (8) obtained through the medium of serigraphy. D'Ambrosio is a book artist of individual books. ... " his aim is not to break tradition in and of itself, he is not avant-garde. His goal is to make beautiful books, and there is never any doubt that the object he creates is just that. his work is so outstanding that I have never seen anything like it in a lifetime of book collecting" quoting from the introduction by Pat Magarick. Many of the pages of this book are set in paper "picture frames" of the same color. The frames and pages are embellished by understated and quite fine gilt designs. A number of the serigraphs are beautiful in there hughes of yellow, gilt, salmon, aqua and gay. The serigraph pictures are as evocative as they are beautiful. The book is quarter bound in gray linen over marbled linen using the color schemes used throughout the book. There is a fine paper spine label with guilt lettering. The clam-shell box is made of fine gray board. This copy is one of 10 A.P. of an edition of 75 copies. For the collector of fine art and D'Ambrosio efficianatos, this book is one of the best examples of the genre.
