Milne, before any of the Winnie-the-Pooh books, during the First World War, his first Children's book. Though as his dedication to his wife states it is not his book, but theirs, his wife had first suggested he "write a little play for yourself and the Colonel's children to act" and that she had written down the ideas that came in to his head during the evenings after his day's work with the 4th Royal Warwickshire Regiment was over, and he goes on to dedicate the book to the Officers and Men of the Regiment.
