New York: Random House, 1969. 1st/1st. VG/VG. Stated First Printing. Carefully read book, tightly bound and square with good corners. Faint fading in places, else brown boards are clean and unmarred. Top-stain is fine. Textblock is clean with no writing, bookplate or marks and not BCE, ex-library or remaindered. Pages lightly tanned. Dust jacket is unclipped ($6.95). Mild rubbing, shelf wear at corners, spine ends and upper back. Small crease to upper front flap. Protected in a Brodart cover. 8vo - over 7 3/4 " - 9 3/4 " tall. Author's first novel. A novel of the Army before Vietnam and during the Vietnam War.
Crumley's disturbing Vietnam novel. In '62, Sergeant Krummel assumes command of a crew of rebellious, drunken enlistees. Surviving military absurdities only to be shipped to Vietnam, Krummel's band confront their worst fears while losing faith in America.
